Qi (齊) is a Chinese surname that originated during the Spring and Autumn Period in China. The surname Qi has four different origins: one is derived from the name of a state in ancient China called Qi (齊國), another is from the name of a mountain called Qi Shan (齊山), and the third is from the name of a river called Qi Jiang (齊江), all of which are located in present-day Shandong province. The fourth origin is attributed to descendants of the last king of the Shang dynasty, Di Xin, who took on the surname Qi after the fall of the dynasty.
Qi is one of the most common surnames in China and is ranked 30th in terms of population size. Famous people with the surname Qi include Qi Baishi, a renowned Chinese painter, and Qi Jiguang, a military general during the Ming dynasty.
